STAR TREK: TNG
The most loved of the Star Trek series. The characters are likeable, the plots are interesting, it's an extremely comfortable series. It was my first, and will always remian dear to me. The show makes you feel like a member of the crew, allowing you to both experience the adventures of the crew as officers and as people. The characters are well developed, however, they're a bit too perfect, which makes them sort of unrealistic and somewhat dimensionless. However, the series introduced some great characters, such as Luwaxanna Troi, Lore, and especially Q. Also, it introduced some unforgettable species that become important in the other series, such as the Borg, Ferengi, Betazoid, and Cardassians. Finally, the acting is really good, with Patrick Stewart heading the cast as the strict yet cultured Captain Picard. TNG may not always be completely unique but it never ceased to make me smile.
Favorite Character(s) Data. I loved his combination of childlike curiosity and intellect. His lack of emotions was quite different than Spock's, and the excellent episode where the two of them chat explains how while Spock strives to be less human, Data attempts to become more human. Data's growth is one of the most compelling aspects of the series, so that episodes with no driving action such as "Data's Day" are as equally brilliant as Borg episodes. Brent Spiner's acting is perfect for the character, and all of Data's actions are genuine and believable. I admit as well, that I'm partial to AI anyway and was especially pleased that TNG had an android character.
