MUSIC I LOVE
//Favorite songs (only my absolute favorites, not the only songs that I like from each artist, and not all the artists I like are listed)All of these songs have been carefully selected to only represent the absolute necessities of my collection, or at least strongly represent each genre/type of music I enjoy.
Aerosmith Dude Looks Like a Lady, Rag Doll
A good handful of their stuff is cool, but I’m not big on their newer material
Alice in Chains I Stay Away, No Excuses
Hummable guitar riffs, and spooky grinding elements. Graceful metal, really.
Amy Winehouse Rehab
This is an awesome retro kind of song; love singing along
Andrea Bocelli Cieli Di Toscana
This song is so romantic; I discovered it in the Barilla commercial!
Bach Double Violin Concerto Vivace
I love Bach’s violin pieces, especially this one. VERY important piece to me
Back to the Future III Theme
I love Silvestri’s BTTF music, but this one I especially enjoy because I like Western sounding music as well
Barrage Old Joe Clark, Allen’s Bar, Chopsticken
These fiddlers play everything from Celtic and folk, to big band swing and East Indian, to Calypso, Jazz and Classical
Basia Promises
Cool jazz with Brazilian-based Samba/Bossa Nova stylings, her music is very uplifting and feel-good
Beatles EVERYTHING
I love the Beatles and grew up on them! I will say that my favorite albums are Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the White Album, and Abbey Road.
Belle and Sebastian Seeing Other People, If She Wants Me
Excellent upbeat, folky piano-dominant song. I like a few songs from this Scottish band

Lots of fun to sing

Boyz II Men Thank You, Water Runs Dry
Great soul harmonies.
Black Eyed Peas Don't Phunk With My Heart, Let's Get Retarded, Hey Mama
Hey, I made up a smash dance to one of their songs: the mixing bowl!!
Blind Guardian Precious Jerusalem, Wait for an Answer, Wizard, Time Stands Still (at the Iron Hill), Mies Del Dolor, Valhalla, Mordred's Song
Where can I start? Quite possibly my favorite band. They’re brilliant, especially Hansi, the vocalist. His voice is one of the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard. German progressive power metal fused with classical and folk, and a lot of fantasy. May I emphasize POWERFUL. Their most popular album is Nightfall in Middle Earth, which is all about Tolkien’s Silmarillion, loved by BG and Tolkien fans alike. And that’s saying something.
Britney Spears Toy Soldier
Love that drum that sounds like a military march; I only tend to like dance songs that have that low down beat
Chicago Beginnings, Does Anybody Really Know..., Make Me Smile
Chicago has such a deep, peaceful yet complex sound
Cirque du Soleil Mirko, Spiritual Spiral
Celtic, African, Japanese, tribal… international influences are found in the works released for Cirque du Soleil. Haunting and gorgeous
Color Me Badd All 4 Love
This is one of my favorite songs!! (clearly) So fun and upbeat and funky
Collective Soul Shine, The World I Know
Two very moving, soulful rock songs
Culture Club Karma Chameleon, The War Song
Fun, sweet 80’s pop
David Bowie Blue Jean, Changes, Suffragette City, Young Americans, Golden Years
I love Bowie. He’s one of those artists that I tend to enjoy across all of his musical changes, although I’m not quite fond of his newer techno stuff. He hits every genre, from evocative cabaret ("Space Oddity," "Changes") through muscular glam-rock ("Suffragette City," "The Jean Genie") to R&B ("Young Americans," "Fame") to post-punk flirtations ("Ashes to Ashes," "Fashion").
Dead or Alive You Spin Me Right 'Round
Fun, 80’s disco-with-a-backbone song
Depeche Mode Strangelove, Question of Lust, Enjoy the Silence, Personal Jesus, I Feel You, Condemnation
I really like Depeche Mode. Funky, rhythmic, sexy new wave synthpop with eerie, mesmerizing lyrics. Songs are quite varied, from bluesy, to gothic and gospel.
Dixie Dregs Holiday
So vibrant and full of emotion
Dream Theater Solitary Shell, About to Crash
Brilliantly talented progressive rock/metal group. Their most amazing CD, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, with power ballads, endlessly melodic instrumentals (the second CD is a 42 minute song with 8 movements), unreal keyboard work, and great vocals. Spans every mood.
Doobie Brothers Black Water, It Keeps You Runnin', Listen to the Music
Funky country-boogie song with great harmonies and sweet fiddle playing
Doors Touch Me, The Alabama Song
Great band: bluesy, sexy, and hard-edged rock.
Duo de Pelikaan Hosse Hosse Hose
Another wacky Dutsch song. This ones almost… progressive though. Hm
Elton John I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart, Rocketman
Great, bluesy pianist
Elvis vs JXL A Little Less Conversation
A remix of the Elvis song, this one is very danceable
Elmer Bernstein Ghostbusters theme (not the Ray Parker, Jr. theme)
Awesome rhythmic piano march to underscore the boys on the move
ELO Mr. Blue Sky, Sweet Talkin' Woman
Electric rock with violins, lovin' it
English Beat Save it for Later, I Confess
Ska as a foundation, rock, dub, punk and Afro-beat piled on
Eurythmics There Must be an Angel
Annie Lennox has such a beautiful voice. This song is lush and truly shows Annie’s lovely voice off.
Faith No More Epic, Easy, I Started a Joke
A fun, talented group with very varied style. Their covers are excellent, much thanks to Mike Patton’s voice.
Gary Wright Dream Weaver
Poetic and melodic, and very dreamy, like the song implies
Grateful Dead Scarlet Begonias, Franklin’s Tower
Extremely funky songs, awesome bass lines, impossible not to bob ones head to.
Guns N’ Roses Mr. Brownstone
Great guitar and drum work, fun catchy song
Harry Belafonte Shake Senora, Turn the World Around
Hedwig and the Angry Inch Sugar Daddy, Wig in a Box.
Fun and uplifting, it's got some snap.
Huey Lewis & the News Power of Love, Heart of Rock and Roll, Back in Time
Classic 80’s rock ‘n roll group, very feel good, especially love Huey’s bluesy singing voice
John Adorney In Bloom
Very uplifting, electronic strings new age piece.
Jean-Luc Ponty Indigo, Rhum 'n Zouk, After the Storm, Once Upon a Dream
Amazing violinist, very moving pieces
Julian Lennon Too Late For Goodbyes
Chirpy synth, great guitar work, would make his father proud
Kabouter Plop De Kabouterdans
Very funky Danish song from a fanumation video, love the strings. Gotta love wacky foreign stuff!
Ken Elkinson Opal
Very moving new age piano piece, somewhat haunting, beautiful key changes. The entire album is excellent
Korn Here to Stay, Thoughtless
KoRn can be monotonous and annoying, but when they’re not abusing their formula, they’ve got awesome guitar riffs, scatty vocals, angsty in a “gritty, dirty” way
KMFDM Stray Bullet
Mellow and slow paced electronic metal song. Sascha’s vocals are creepy in a cool way.
Leahy Celtic Moods, Mission, Call to France, Lord of the Dance
Dynamic, blazing fiddling from this family, playing some of the most amazing and vibrant Celtic I’ve ever heard
Led Zeppelin Fool in the Rain, Kashmir, Over the Hills and Far Away, Ramble On, That’s the Way, Houses of the Holy
Not much to say but this IS rock ‘n roll. Classic blends of rock, folk and blues
Leonard Nimoy Ballard of Bilbo Baggins
A demented novelty, I’ve got to admit, I enjoy Nimoy’s baritone, and it’s quite charming and groovy. Not to mention it’s all about Bilbo and that’s cool!
Mamas and the Papas I Saw Her Again, Creeque Alley
Melodic folk band, very cool and enjoyable. Love Cass’ voice.
Mason Williams Classical Gas
I've always loved this piece since I was little
Maxine Nightingale Right Back Where We Started From
This song has special meaning for me and reminds me of college. Right, Tony?
Metallica Of Wolf and Man
Cool chorus, very visual song, sort’ve thrashy. Most all of their popular albums (Master of Puppets, Black Album, Ride the Lightning, etc) are pretty good (by NO MEANS their newer material)
Monkees EVERYTHING (esp. Tapioca Tundra and Writing Wrongs)
I’ve loved the Monkees show and music since I was very young. I bought all of their CDs and they still are a very important staple of my CD collection. I love 90% of what they’re done, and some Mike Nesmiths songs are especially special to me (ie Tapioca Tundra)
Mozart Dies Irae
Music is powerful, Latin vocal part is chilling
Natascha Atlas Mistaneek
So sexy, what a combo of Middle Eastern music with the west
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Red Right Hand
Speaking of chilling… dark, romantic, sexy and devilish. Nick adds so much with his silky smooth baritone
Nightwish Stargazers
Intense power metal with beyond gorgeous female operatic vocals. Tarja has the voice of an angel! This particular song reminds me a little of the Castlevania music
Nine Inch Nails Closer
This song oozes dirty sex. Controversial and more than a little suggestive. The album The Downward Spiral is raw industrial/metal, perfect for giving in to a little lust and anguish. Most songs are complex and progressive in their own way. I didn’t put them on this list, but I like some more popular Manson and Static-X pieces, too, for the same reasons.
Ottmar Liebert Driving 2 Madrid
Soulful, Flamenco-inspired music on Spanish guitar
Orgy Opticon
Electronic industrial/metal song with new age elements, this techno glam-rock piece is singable.
O-ZONE Dragostea Din Tei
I know this Russian song has been on the news and totally overdone, but I think it's a great song!
Pearl Jam Evenflow, Alive
Aggressive, yet melodic and cohesive. Grungy, yet original enough to be in it’s own genre
PM Dawn Die Without You
GORGEOUS song, dancing to it at my wedding!!
Prodigy Firestarter, Breathe
I like these catchy dark electronica technometal hits. Very energetic, vocals are neat, too
Queen Don't Stop Me Now, Killer Queen, Somebody to Love, Another One Bites the Dust, Bicycle Race, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy
Excellent, beyond classic rock group. Freddy Mercury has an unreal voice
Rammstein Eifersucht
German industrial metal with German lyrics. Best in their genre. They have a signature sound, usually pounding rhythms and scary German vocals.
Roberto Leal Pagode Russo, Eu Quero Mais, Sao Joao, Mulher Chorona, Saber Vencer, Sinhá Senhora, O Malhao, Vira Virar, A Danca Do Tiro Liro, Nao Deixe A Festa Acabar, O Toque Da Concertina, Vira Comigo
My boyfriend got me into this great Portuguese singer! The songs are a lot of fun and show a lot of rich culture
Rob Zombie More Human than the Human
Groovy, campy, and colorful industrial metal. Pretty demented, often called “monster rock.” This is actually a White Zombie song, but I put it under Rob cause I also wanted to mention that the album “Hellbilly Deluxe” is a pretty good album.
Rush Limelight
A progressive rock classic group, Geddy Lee is an awesome vocalist. This song is a big favorite
Secret Garden Anything that they do
Oriental notes, Irish flutes, deep bodhran, and bold violins. An amazing Celtic/new age duo, they describe their music as "music to a film not yet seen” which is the perfect description of them. Celtic music is a very important part of my collection.
Sisters of Mercy Cry Little Sister
Dark, sharp, twisting, and deeply evocative gothic pop/rock
Smashing Pumpkins Cherub Rock
I love the SP album Siamese Dream. I like plenty of songs by them, but Cherub Rock has always been a favorite: classically alternative, with great distorted guitar and Corgan’s unique vocals.
Steely Dan Deacon Blues, Home at Last
Cool jazz fusion and a bit of pop rock, Aja is a great Steely Dan album. Deacon Blues is especially relaxing, with a great horn section.
Steppenwolf Magic Carpet Ride
A very fun rock hit
Tea Party Bazaar, Fire in the Head, Sister Awake
Unbelievable band! Their CD “The Edges of Twilight” is incredible. Somewhat similar to Led Zeppelin in some ways, they combine finely crafted, hypnotic hard rock, piano ballads, blues, and sitar-laden meditations, with a definite Middle Eastern flavor.
Tim Curry Wake Nicodemus, I Do the Rock, Anyone Who Had a Heart, Harlem on My Mind, Birds of a Feather, Surabaya Johnny, Blue Monday, Anything Can Happen on Halloween
Tim Curry has a beyond amazing voice, I have been a fan of his since a very young age. I own all of his rock albums that he released when he was younger. “The Best of Tim Curry” is a great album, lots of fun. Some balladry stuff, some funky rock, blues, and even some classic 40’s jazz.
Tom Waits Cemetery Polka
Waits is quite the original guy. This song is incredibly odd, with Waits roughened voice, weird and eerie storytelling lyrics, and creepy, almost circus-like music, that sounds like the instruments are somewhat out of tune or are winding down
Tool Sober
I like a handful of Tool, I do think Maynard is talented. This song is beautiful, heavy, and sad. Lyrics are very dark and deep
Tori Amos Cornflake Girl, God, Winter
Tori is a wonderfully edgy and talented pianist. Her songs are incredibly deep and soulful, and she’s always going to town on her piano. I am very glad that she represents myself and many other women in expressing feminine weirdness
Two Siberians Outpost Radio
A Russian duo (electric violin & electric guitar) with an extremely unique sound, sort of a blend of jazz, rock, and pop instrumental. Very well known in Russia, not quite so well known in the US yet. I had the pleasure of meeting them Fall of 2002.
U2 Mysterious Ways
Bono has a great voice, and U2 has a great sound.
UB 40 Here I Am (Come and Take Me)
Love their mellow pop reggae covers
Vanessa-Mae Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in Dm, Cancan, Classical Gas, Jazz Will Eat Itself, Tequila Mockingbird, Pricked by a Thousand Knives
Ahh, Vanessa. I believe she was my first favorite solo violinist. Her music is so meaningful to me. Her pieces are the most electrifying blends of classical with pop/techno/jazz. She gives classical favorites dazzling, upbeat life, and amazes with brilliant original pieces, too. VERY important in my collection.
Vogues Five O'Clock World
Fun song, interesting look at the human condition
Weird Al My Baby's In Love With Eddie Vedder, Dog Eat Dog, Dare to be Stupid, Everything You Know Is Wrong, You Make Me
Oh, Al, you bring me so much joy. I’ve loved Al since I was a young girl, and fell in love with my cousin’s album “Bad Hair Day.” He’s wacky, original, extremely witty, and of course, absolutely hilarious. His music spans all genres, new wave, pop, covers, polkas. He’s an unbelievably energetic performer live, and I would absolutely love to see him again (it was one of my favorite two concerts, I never felt so good!)
Wild Cherry Play That Funky Music
Funky, groove kinda song
//Video Game Music
Braid Downstream
The entire soundtrack to this game is gorgeous and is so fitting for the game; Downstream is one of my top favorite songs ever
Castlevania Symphony of the Night Entire Soundtrack (esp. Dance of the Pales & Crystal Drops)
This Michiru Yamane-composed score is one of the greatest of all time. Like past Castlevania games, many of the songs are Baroque-influenced melodies performed in a rock style, but there is much more stylistic variety here than in past Castlevania games. "Prologue" is one of the finest hard rock tunes to ever grace a video game. "Dracula Castle" is a pounding rock theme with a soaring melody that ranks as perhaps the best song the series has ever seen. And "Awakened Soul" fuses a Santana-esque melody to a danceable beat to create a surprisingly effective laid-back number. “Dance of the Pales” is a gorgeous piano piece, and “Golden Dance” is an incredible synthesizer piece.
Diablo I & II Town
Amazingly well orchestrated music
Donkey Kong Country Entire Soundtrack
Donkey Kong Country 2 Entire Soundtrack

Many of the songs are more beautiful versions of songs from the original games. The songs are perfectly fitting, from exciting, adventurous, scary, and haunting.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Entire Soundtrack (esp. Hyrule field)
Beautifully composed and extremely catchy. Some of the most gorgeous songs I have ever heard are from this soundtrack. Completely original, and fit the tone perfectly. The kind of music you would want to play as background music in your everyday life, to make it seem more vivid and exciting.
Legend of Zelda: Windwaker Theme, Ocean, Dragon Root Island,
Another awesome addition to the series
Parasite Eve Theme of Aya, Arise Within You
One of my top favorite games, the soundtrack is eerie and beautiful
Plok Entire Soundtrack (esp. Plok's House and Shotgun)
Funky fusion jazz type of stuff. The boss theme is scary techno music with evil laughing. Very cool stuff.

All of the music on this album, especially track 6 and track 11, are incredibly gorgeous bittersweet strings.

Quite possibly the most gorgeous piano pieces in the world. The build’s are sad and moody, and the buy’s are relaxing and very “day in the suburbs” sounding.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Time Entire Soundtrack (esp. Sewerage and Battle)
Another game that is a lot of fun, and the music is funky
Xenogears Daily
This is a gorgeous piano piece. I downloaded the entire 46 something songs from Xenogears before I found this song, but it was worth it.
Zombies ate My Neighbors Entire Soundtrack
Very cool stuff, funky, creepy and a bit dancey.
//Musicals/movie musicals
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (w/ Nathan Lane) Pretty Little Picture, Comedy Tonight
1776 (New Broadway Cast 1997) The Lees of Old Virginia, Sit Down, John,
A musical about the signing of the Declaration. I think it’s pretty neat! The music is great, reflective of the time period, but modern. And the singing is fantasic! Especially the man who plays Richard H. Lee (The Lees of Old Virginia) and Gregg Edelman (Molasses to Rum). And who can forget the original nasally voice of Brent Spiner, with his funny remarks and perfect pitch.
Aida Fortune Favors the Brave, Another Pyramid, Not Me
Aladdin Friend Like Me, Prince Ali, One Jump

Dance of the Vampires Endless Appetite
Very lovely musical, though only really popular in Germany. Beautifully dark and romantic, with some very neat heavy rock pieces. Steve Barton is the singing voice of Count von Krolock, and he has a devastatingly powerful baritone, and remains one of my two favorite Broadway singers.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Oklahoma, Give Them What They Want
Evita (Original Broadway Cast) Waltz for Evita and Che, Peron's Latest Flame, A New Argentina, High Flying, Adored, Rainbow Tour
Beautiful and tense historical story of Evita Peron. Classic Broadway piece with a strong Latin feel. Exceptional singing here, by Patti LuPone and a BIG performance here by Mandy Patinkin (GORGEOUS tenor).
Fiddler on the Roof (Motion Picture Sndtrk) Tradition, If I Were a Rich Man, To Life, Tevye's Dream
Excellent play, excellent movie, a big favorite of mine. Culturally transcendent with its beautiful, very human story, one can’t help but love Tevye. Topol is by far the best Tevye, with a beyond amazing voice. With great music influenced by rich Jewish tradition and culture, this musical is very moving.
Geppetto Toys, And Son, Bravo Stromboli
I know a Pinocchio movie with Drew Carey as the star sounds lame, but give it a chance, it was pretty fun! Great cast.
Godspell Bless the Lord, God Save the People, Alas for You, We Beseech Thee, You are the Light of the World
Endearing, fun, goofy charm
Grease Grease, You're the One That I Want

Last Five Years Shiksa Goddess
Les Miserables (Original Broadway Cast) Stars, At the End of the Day, Who am I?, Confrontation, Master of the House, One Day More, Bring Him Home
My favorite musical, which I could gush on and on about. Amazingly moving story, characters that are fleshed out superbly, gorgeous score, and unbelievably talented performers. Featuring as Javert one of my two favorite Broadway singers, Terrence Mann, a gorgeous baritone, who I had the honor of seeing perform as Javert when he came out of retirement to play Javert once more on Broadway before Les Mis closed.

This Ragtime-era Disney musical is inspirational, fun and contagious. I really love Carrying the Banner
Nightmare Before Christmas What’s This?, This is Halloween

Oliver! (Motion Picture Sndtrk) Pick a Pocket or Two, Consider Yourself, Be Back Soon
Great movie, great acting, great singing from everybody (especially Ron Moody and Jack Wild). Orchestrations are lush and vivid, and the songs span every mood.

Popeye Entire Soundtrack
I’ve loved this movie musical since I was a kid. It’s a family favorite, and it has lots of fun spirit. The performers are great, especially Williams, who is the perfect Popeye. One of my all-time favorite feel-good films.

Rent (Original Broadway Cast) Rent, Another Day, Santa Fe, La Vie Boheme

This musical is eerie and sad, and the songs are clever and beautiful.

Pufnstuf, Dumbo, Raggedy Ann & Andy, because I figured they were obscure, and listing song titles would be a waste.
//TV/Movie Scores
